KF Kitchens - The Plymouth Magazine - July 2012

KF Kitchens

A Plympton couple have achieved the kitchen of their dreams - thanks to KF Kitchens, one of Plymouth's leading independent kitchen companies.

Robert and Kim Goodman had a clear idea of how they wanted to change the kitchen at their four-bedroomed detached home in Romilly Gardens.
"We spend as much time as possible in our garden and I love cooking," said Robert. "But the garden wasn't accessible from the kitchen, which meant I always felt a bit isolated when everybody was outside and I was in the kitchen.
"We knew we wanted to 'bring the garden into the kitchen' by replacing the existing windows with patio doors and also wanted to give the kitchen a complete makeover at the same time.
"Our idea was that this would involve extending the kitchen into the utility room to create more space," added Robert.
"We spoke to a number of kitchen companies, but they all said that we would need to organise all the building work and then they would install the kitchen.
"We didn't want the pressure of organising that side of the work and dealing with lots of different tradesmen - which led us to contact KF Kitchens."
Nathan Damarell of KF Kitchens, who are based at Farady Mill, takes up the story. "I could see what Robert and Kim wanted to do, but felt that they could improve on their vision by not only extending into the utility room, but also relocating the downstairs toilet, which was accessed from the kitchen."
Nathan's more radical approach involved using some of the space in the property's double garage to relocate the downstairs toilet, which immediately created a more spacious and ergonomic layout for the kitchen.
He arranged for various specialist tradesmen to visit the Goodman's home to ensure that his plan was workable. It even required expert input from a firm of structural engineers because of the need to install a new load-bearing steel beam in the kitchen.
Robert said: "By putting us in contact with these specialists it gave us the confidence to go ahead with the work. We are absolutely delighted with the results."

His wife Kim said: "Nathan said that the work would take five weeks and it was completed bang on time and exactly on budget. The various tradesmen and local companies he recommended were excellent and very professional."
Nathan said that he had recommended Plymouth-based Best Quality Windows to install the new patio doors and Furnishing Collections of Peverell had handled all aspects of the new flooring.
"The kitchen design we chose combined the best of traditional materials with contemporary design," said Nathan. The kitchen units involve a combination of sage coloured painted timber and natural washed oak.
These house a range of built-in NEFF appliances including a hob, oven, fridge and dishwasher.
The centrepiece peninsular houses a sink and preparation area overlooking the garden and is finished with black quartz worktop. Downlighters, hanging lights and low level plinth lights create a bright and warm feeling to the kitchen.

Robert said: "KF Kitchens not only helped us achieve our dream - but actually enhanced it. We would have no hesitation in recommending them."
